Fun BBQ Aprons 05-14-10 |

What a great way to start the Summer grilling season! With a few simple adjustments you can take a plain apron and make it so cute that any Griller will be proud to wear it:-) Oh and we may have some bonus designs below for paying members:-)
I started with a plain apron. Mine had a pocket, so I had to remove it. Be careful when doing this. It is EASY to accidentally put holes in your apron!
Next measure your pocket (if you apron had one). You want to make the new pocket a little bit bigger. This way it will cover where the previous stitching on your apron front was. If you did not have a pocket on yours I cut the pocket at 18" wide x 10" tall.
Choose a fun fabric for your pocket. If you use a different color apron you may want to make sure your fabric matches your apron color. Cut out the pocket in the dimensions above. Now I serged the edges. You could zig zag or use fray check on them as well.
Take the pocket to your iron and fold over and iron approximately 1/2" all the way around. I just eye balled this. Also fold in half to find the center and press. You will want to stitch down the top edge now (before you put it on your apron). This way you won't have that piece coming up after washing it.
Now line it up on your apron. If you removed a pocket you can just line it up over the old pocket stitches. If you did not have a pocket just fold your apron in half (the long way) and iron so you can find the center. If you put your pocket center crease on the apron center crease you should be good to go. If you are really fussy get out your level to be sure your top and bottom are exactly straight. Pin in place and stitch onto your apron. I used a zig zag stitch so it would be stitched into place very well.
Before you stitch the center line (so you have two pockets) go and mark it with a fabric pencil. If you think you can stitch on the crease o.k. go for it. I just know without the line my stitching would NOT be straight! LOL After you do that make sure you put an extra stitch on the corners and the top of the center. This way your pocket will hold up to every day wear and tear.
O.k. here is our apron. It looks great but I like to add some fun embroidery on my aprons as well:-)
