lunch sack 04-22-09 |

This week we are making fabric lunch sacks. You will need: Fun fabric of your choice Fusible stiff stabilizer or interfacing sewing glue or fusible tape matching design Optional fusible velcro The designs used this week are available to paying members in a download at the bottom of the page:-) |
Lay your fabric out and measure 12" wide by 32" long. Cut your fabric. |
Now cut a piece of fusible stabilizer or interface to the same size. As per the manufacturer's instructions, iron the stabilizer/interface to the wrong side of your fabric. |
Folder your fabric in half and press the long way. So you should have a 12" x 16" piece as shown. |
From the center crease measure 2 1/2 " up and down. Mark with a pencil. |
Now crease the lines you just marked. This is the bottom of your sack. |
Now flip it inside out and fold in the corners of the bottom of the sack. Fold them up to the crease line you just made. Now press again to hold them. Do both sides. |
Now fold back the sides of your sack 1" and press. Do this on both sides. |
Flip your sack right side out. You will need to re-fold in your gussets on the bottom of the bag. Press them into place. |
Now you have a couple options. If you have a regular home embroidery machine embroider your design on NOW! If you have commercial machine you can finish the sack first. To stitch it together, flip in inside out and stitch a line all the way down both sides. Other options are fusible tape or sewing glue for those who do not sew. |
You can either edge the top of the bag with a serger or zig zag or you can fold it over like the sides and stitch or fuse into place. I liked the idea of using a pinking shears and giving the sack that paper sack look. |
Now you can choose the design you want for your bag. I loved the cupcake fabric so I chose a design to match it. Those designs are available to paying members for download on this page below! If you want your sack to close fold the top and use Velcro to hold it shut! |
TAH DAH!!! You have an adorable lunch sack that is great for the Earth as it is re-usable and not made of paper! |
It looks just like a fancy paper sack. These are great as it seems everyone is brown bagging it due to the financial stress our world is under. Why not make your own bag that you can re-use every day. Also if you forget a napkin you can use the bag! Plus the are washable!
We all need to do what we can keep save our planet. This is just one simple thing. Try switching to florescent or led light bulbs. Plug your electronics into power strips so you can shut them completely off when not in use. Ride your bike or walk when you can instead of taking the car. There are so many little things we can all do. If all of us did just one, it WILL make a difference!
| You can make these to match anyone's style! No more grabbing the wrong lunch sack either. You will KNOW which is yours! Kids will LOVE these. |
