Re-Usable sandwich wrapper

05-06-09

This week we are creating a re-usable sandwich wrapper.

The set used is Fast Food set. This Friday we will also have a Sushi set up that would be adorable with this.

This is a NO sew project!

You need:

1 vinyl placemat (needs to be flexible to fold) a piece of fabric a little larger then the placemat. Heat & Bond ultra hold. Design of your choice and iron on velcro.

We start with a plain vinyl placemat. Make sure it is flexible enough to fold.

Choose the fabric that you want on the outside of your wrapper.

Measure an extra inch all the way around the placemat. Leave the corners squared.

Cut your fabric. It should look like this. BTW, you can use a square placemat if you like.

Fold the fabric in half and then half again and mark your center. This is were you will stitch your design.

Your design should be in the center of your fabric now.

Now you have a choice. You can use a permanent fabric glue or heat & bond to attach your fabric to your placemat. I chose heat & bond.

If you are using heat & bond cut a piece to the exact size of your fabric. If you are using glue you will paint the glue on the the wrong side of the fabric.

Iron the H&B according to directions on to the wrong side of the fabric.

Peel the paper off the H&B. Place the H&B side on top of your placemat. Carefully iron. You only need to set your iron at about medium setting. Too hot will MELT the placemat. Make sure you iron on the FABRIC side!

Flip over the placemat. CAREFULLY iron down the edges of the excess fabric, starting with the corners. Do NOT touch the placemat with your iron. A mini craft iron would work great for this part.

Now that all the sides are ironed down you will need to fold your placemat to find your placement for the Velcro. I just used a square template I had that was the size of a sandwich.

Fold the placemat the long way first and then fold the ends in.

It should look like this when you are done folding.

Now that you have your folds just place your iron on top of it to kind of crease it into place

Place your Velcro where you would like it. I put both pieces together, then peeled off the backing to place them. This way they line up perfectly. Iron according to package instructions.

Now you have a REALLY CUTE sandwich wrapper that is re-usable. This is washable (please hang dry though as your dryer may melt it!).

When you fold this out to eat your sandwich you have your own placemat to eat on as well!

What a great addition to the fabric bag project!
